From banner to tote bags

Collaboration with Ivanišin.Kabashi.Architects

In June this year, the architectural studio Ivanišin.Kabashi.Architects held an ad hoc retrospective exhibition of his works. At the large PVC banner measuring 2.3 x 15 m Plans and cross-sections of their projects were displayed — architecture translated into lines, textures, and layers of space.

After the exhibition ended, the banner lost its original function, but not its value. In order to avoid wasting material, the architects contacted me with the desire to repurposed banner lady new life

From banner to bag

Each bag is handmade, and due to the fragmented print, each one is unique.

A special element of this project is handles made from original belts with which the banner was placed in the exhibition area. This closes the full circle of material — every part of the exhibition was reused and integrated into a new product.

Result: recycled banner bags which connect functionality, aesthetics and social responsibility.

Why do projects like this make sense?

This collaboration shows how design can be a tool for change and how the material can have second life cycle. Instead of ending up in a landfill, the banner and its parts become permanent promotional product who:

  • reduces waste and encourages circular thinking,
  • carries aesthetic and symbolic value,
  • conveys a message about responsible and socially engaged business.

For companies, museums, cultural institutions and agencies, this is a way to they turn exhibition and promotional materials into unique products who continue to tell their story.
